and Respect
Criminal Defense
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
– John Adams, 1770
We are a nation of laws and the principle of the Rule of Law is what motivated thirty-four year old, future President, John Adams to defend eight British soldiers charged with killing five Boston citizens in an incident known as “The Boston Massacre.”
John Adams uttered this famous quote during his closing argument in defense of the unpopular British soldiers. There may be no greater example in criminal law of an attorney representing defendants less popular than these British soldiers. Yet, one of America’s greatest patriots, despite fierce opposition to his service, chose to represent these men because of his adherence to the Rule of Law.
It is in this spirit of respect for the Rule of Law that attorney Cloutier aggressively prosecuted criminal defendants for six years as an Assistant District Attorney in Boston; and it is in this same spirit that attorney Cloutier will aggressively represent individuals charged with committing a crime.
